Our History

2002/2003 - Newmarket Area Healthcheck

  • Sponsored by the Countryside Agency, as part of the Market Towns Initiative, the 'Healthcheck' was an intensive collection and analysis of information to seek the views of everyone in the community

  • Questionnaires were sent out to  (Private Individuals, Local Clubs and Societies, Schools, Charitable Organizations, Businesses and Local Government) of Newmarket and the surrounding villages

  • The final phase of seeking the views of the community was a two day Exhibition held in the Memorial Hall in Newmarket. The Exhibition was used to let the community know what the Healthcheck was about and to capture any other views

  • All this information was analysed and published in a detailed report, together with suggested Action Plans. To view the Newmarket Area Healthcheck Report please CLICK HERE.

2004 - 'Newmarket Community Partnership' formed

  • The Newmarket Community Partnership was formed from interested parties who had participated in the Healthcheck and saw the Partnership being a useful way to progress issues on behalf of the community

  • A Project Officer was appointed to facilitate building links with EEDA, Forest Heath District Council, East Cambridgeshire DC and Newmarket Town Council

  • The Steering Group was established and planning started to develop the structure  of the Partnership and the best ways to progress Action Plans.

2005 - 'Newmarket Community Partnership' - Action for the Community

  • Working Groups were established to focus on different process areas

  • The Newmarket Community Partnership produced an Action Plan seeking improvements to Newmarket and its hinterland, prioritised by the people local in the local community.

  • The Partnership continues to develop links with local organisations, public agencies, local businesses and national charities and we are starting to deliver some of the 'wants' and 'wishes' of the community.

2006 - 'Newmarket Community Partnership' - Action for the Community
